CQC Green Labs
In recent years, the scientific community has increasingly recognized the environmental impact of research activities. It was in this context that the Green Lab initiatives emerged, dedicated to addressing the ecological footprint associated with science.
Driven by the voluntary commitment of researchers and technical teams, these initiatives have played a crucial role: raising awareness among peers, defining sustainability guidelines, generating scientific knowledge, and creating accreditation systems.
Inspired by this vision, at CQC Green Labs we aim to promote leadership and drive profound change in laboratory practices and in the way we conduct research, contributing to a more responsible and sustainable science.
A Green Laboratory is defined as any group, activity, or initiative dedicated to helping labs reduce their ecological footprint while maintaining high standards of quality and safety — a concept established by the Sustainable European Laboratories (SELs) Network.
On September 17, 2025, CQC joined Green Labs Portugal — also known as the Greenlabs National Network of Portuguese Research Laboratories — which is itself a member of the Sustainable European Laboratories (SELs), an organization that promotes sustainable practices in research across Europe.
The mission of CQC Green Labs is to promote the adoption of daily environmentally sustainable practices in CQC laboratories, reducing carbon emissions and energy consumption while minimizing the environmental impact of scientific research.
